Our People

At Hartford Investment Management, our 168 investment professionals comprise a diverse group of global credit analysts, portfolio managers, traders, and risk management specialists, working collectively to generate a continuous flow of investment analysis and insights. Our investment professionals aim to identify strategies that will provide the greatest risk-adjusted return potential. Among our strengths is a willingness to seek to maximize return by structuring portfolios using what we believe to be the most efficient means of implementation. Meet Our Senior Management Team

Our leadership team averages more than two decades of investment industry experience:
Greg McGreevey, CFA
Greg is President of Hartford Investment Management Company and Executive Vice President and Chief Investment Officer of Hartford Financial Services Group.  Additionally, Greg is the Chief Investment Officer for our Insurance business.  Prior to joining Hartford Investment Management, Greg served as Vice Chairman and Executive Vice President of ING Investment Management - Americas Region (IIMAR), including business head and CIO for ING's North American proprietary investments and CEO of ING Institutional Markets.  In addition, he was a member of an IIMAR's management committee as well as a variety of key senior leadership committees.  Before joining ING, Greg was President and CIO of Laughlin Asset Management.  Greg holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Portland, an MBA from Portland State University, and is a CFA charterholder.

Mark Niland, CFA
Mark, a Managing Director, has been with the firm since 1989.  He serves as head of General Accounts Portfolio Management.  Prior to joining the firm, he worked at Shawmut National Corp. as a credit officer, concentrating on the analysis of highly leveraged transactions.  Mark was also responsible for cross-border credit research effort including Shawmut’s exposure to its emerging market book of loans. Mark earned his BA in History from the University of Connecticut in 1983 and his MIM from Thunderbird, the Garvin School of International Management in 1985.

Nasri Toutoungi
Nasri, a Managing Director, serves as Head of Strategy/Asset Allocation and is the chair of the firm's Investment Strategy Committee.  Nasri joined the firm in January 2003.  Prior to joining Hartford Investment Management Company, he worked as a Managing Director for BlackRock where he headed a team of professionals in high grade credit research and portfolio management. He earned his Masters in Structural Engineering from Ecole Polytechnique Fèdèrale, Lausanne, Switzerland, and his MBA from the Rice University Jesse Jones School.

Hugh Whelan, CFA
Hugh is a Managing Director and serves as the Head of Quantitative Equities and is the Head of Investments.  Prior to joining HIMCO in 2005, Hugh was the Head of Quantitative Equities at ING where he was responsible for the team managing $16 billion in large cap, mid cap and small cap quantitative equity strategies, and, for managing ING’s quantitative equity research group.  Prior to 1999, he was a quantitative portfolio manager and analyst in ING's fixed income group, specializing in corporate securities.  Hugh earned his B.S. degree in geology and M.S. in petroleum geology from Stanford University and MBA from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School.  He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.

John Brown
John is a Managing Director and serves as Head of Institutional Sales, Client Service and Consultant Relations at Hartford Investment Management.  He is also responsible for directing the firm’s retail, marketing and capital markets efforts.  Prior to joining Hartford Investment Management in 2006, John headed the institutional client service and business development efforts in North America (U.S. and Canada) for Fortis Investments. Prior to his tenure at Fortis, John directed institutional sales at PanAgora Asset Management.  Earlier in his career, John was a regional director of institutional sales for Fidelity Management Trust Company and also a regional pension director for Aetna Capital Management.  John earned his BA at Wesleyan University and holds the Series 3, 7, 24 and 65 FINRA registrations (held through Hartford Equity Sales Company, Inc.).

Donna Howe, CFA
Donna is an Executive Vice President and Chief Risk Officer.  She is a member of the senior leadership team and is responsible for managing the firm’s risk management team and overseeing the risk management process for all client portfolios.  Donna brings to us significant experience in multiple aspects of risk management.  Prior to joining the firm in 2010, she founded Windbeam Risk Advisory, where as CEO she offered strategic risk advisory services to new business initiatives and the design and implementation of risk management frameworks for market, credit and operational risks.  Prior to launching Windbeam, Donna was Global Hedge Fund Risk Manager/Managing Director with UBS AG in Stamford, CT. She has also served as Chief Risk Officer for Angelo, Gordon & Co. in New York, as well as both Chief Risk Officer and Head of Market Risk for divisions of ABN AMRO Bank and as Deputy Head of Market Risk for Deutsche Bank.  Donna is the author of A Guide to Managing Interest-Rate Risk (1991) and a member of the Board of Directors for the Global Association of Risk Professionals.  She teaches occasionally at Rutgers, New York University’s Stern Business School and New York University’s Graduate School of Economics.  Donna earned a BA in Economics from the University of Michigan and is also a CFA charterholder.
